Frown Lines

What are frown lines?

Frown lines, also known as “the 11’s”, form over time from repeated movement of the facial skin by the underlying muscles between the eyebrows. These lines happen because of the way a person’s face moves with facial expressions like frowning or an “angry” face.  The movement of these muscles cause “lines” that will be unique to each individual.  Frown Lines are not just age related, but are dynamic.  Because frown lines are created by facial movements such as frowning or squinting, they may develop even in younger adults. The muscles above and between the eyebrows contract and tighten, and cause movement of the overlying skin which may appear as wrinkles. Botulinum toxin blocks the nerve signal that causes these facial muscles to contract. This results in a reduction of the muscle activity in the treated area and temporarily stops the contraction of these muscles allowing the over lying skin to look smoother and softer.  This is one of the most common areas to use Botulinum toxin and results are amazing.
